Pediatric dentistry deals with the management of children. Maintaining a proper oral hygiene prevents the need for extensive treatment thereby saving time and money. Even though the deciduous teeth exfoliate later it is equally important to maintain its hygiene and prevent it from decay. The deciduous teeth give us an idea about how the underlying permanent teeth are going to erupt.

Preventive treatment includes analyzing the problems that can occur in a particular patient and resort to those practices that prevent the problem. These include
- Pit and fissure Sealants.
- Preventive Orthodontic treatment.
- Fluoride therapy.
Deep pits and fissures are areas hard to clean. So sealing the pits removes the possibility of giving the bacteria a harboring area.
Fluoride therapy induces fluoride into tooth enamel and makes them more resistant to caries.
