Extraction is the process of removal of extensively destroyed tooth. Teeth which are grossly decayed or those teeth which cannot be treated by restoration needs to be extracted. Extensively fractured tooth, failed RCT are to be pulled out as they pose a threat as a focus of infection.
Teeth can also be extracted for therapeutic purposes where it is carried out to treat mal-alignment of the dentition. Extraction can be done by surgical procedures where the teeth are embedded inside the bone (impacted teeth) or by simple means using forceps, elevators, etc under Local anesthesia.
